He was born on 15th October 1967 in highly illustrious family of traditional musicians of the Agra Gharana. He is the grandson of the legendary Ustad Vilayat Hussain Khan (Pranpiya) and Gayan Samrat Ustad Azmat Hussain Khan (Dilrang) Mehboob was initiated in the art of music at a very young age by his father Ustad Yakub Hussain Khan and uncle Shri Rafat Khan – in addition under the able guidance of the world renowned sitar maestro Pandit Arvind Parikh, and grew up into an artist of rare caliber and much promise. He has been the recipient of many prestigious music scholarships and has won accolades in a number of music competitions since childhood.

In 1991 he was honoured with the first prize in the All India Young Talent Contest from Nagpur and Khandwa and also a Bombay University Music Competition Trophy in the same year. Endowed with a rich melodious and sonorous voice, he also learnt vocal music from his father Ustad Yakub Hussain Khan and his uncle Ustad Aslam Khan. Apart from being gifted and talented, he possesses a keen and aesthetic sense and matured ability in the development and rendering of a raga. Under the devoted teaching of his Guru and mentor Pandit Arvind Parikh he has excelled in perfecting the techniques and styles of the legendary sitar maestro Ustad Vilayat Khan and has emerged to be a promising young sitarist of the Vilayatkhani Gharana. His performances are truly unique and inspiring, and have enthralled audiences in India and abroad. He is a regular performer of all India Radio, where he gives solo performance. He has performed all over India, East Africa, and Europe and is currently engaged with workshops and concerts in UK.


Mehboob Nadeem is one of the best sitar players of India who is born in a musically enriched family, his father being the well known vocalist, Ustad Yakub Hussain Khan, his grandfathers being the doyens of Indian Music, Sangeetacharya Ustad Vilayat Hussain Khan Pranpiya and Gayan Samrat Ustad Azmat Hussain Khan Dilrang his grand uncle Ustad Yunus Hussain Khan Darpan, and at present his uncles being the renowned vocalist Ustad Aslam Khan and famous sitar player Ustad Rafat Khan Niyazi.

It is hardly a matter of surprise that Mehboob Nadeem took to music from an early age, like the proverbial fish to water. He has inherited a legacy which may well be the envy of all aspiring artists.

Achievements & Performances

Exclusively invited to perform in Paris for ‘Musiques A Travers le Monde’ and tour of Europe in the year 1998.

Major concert tour of U.K. & Europe in 1999. Played in Rome Specially in memory of the Mother Teresa, invited by the president of Italy. Played in Sicily Music Festival – 1999

Invited as a professor in Leeds Music College, to teach music to senior students – 1999.

Living in U.K. since 2000. Doing workshops and touring various music schools of United Kingdom such as Trinity College and Leeds College of music. Doing summer schools, residential workshops in Leeds from 2000. Actively busy with Asian Music Circuit, doing workshops in schools and colleges.

Major performance at Percell Room in London. Tour in Southampton played duet. Sitar with Viram Jasani.

In the year 2002 he did regular teaching in schools and universities of U.K. He is also teaching privately.

Gave successful concerts all over United Kingdom and taught in Summer School for Ealing music services 2003.

In 2004 he did a project in Norwich, teaching in Mundesley School.

Unique performance at London Mela of Gunnersbury Park London – 2004.

May 2004 – Extensive concert tour of Carrebean Island. Memorable performance at Creole Jazz Festival.

In the year 1998 he had a very successful tour of U.A.E and East Africa Mehboob Nadeem has performed in all major music conferences of India like Dilrang Music Festival, Swami Haridas Sammelan, Saptak Holi Music festival, Donors Taal Music Festivals, Swarmauli, Sangeet Mahabharathi, Indian Music Group, Sajan Milap, Sangeet Premi Mandal and many others.

Mehboob Nadeem has recorded and released cassettes and CDs to his credit released in UK and Europe. He has also given several successful programs of Fusion Music in U.K. & Europe.
